Types of Aluminum Gutters – Which Type is Right for Your Home?

If you’re a homeowner, you know that one of the most important parts of taking care of your home is maintaining the gutters. Gutters play a vital role in protecting your home from water damage by directing rainwater away from your roof, siding, and foundation. Since aluminum gutters are durable and resist corrosion, they are the most popular choice. There are several types of aluminum gutters available, so which is the right choice for your home?

Box Gutters

With an unsurprisingly boxy shape, box gutters are typically used on flat or low–sloped roofs like the ones on commercial buildings. They are designed to handle heavy rainwater runoff because of their width and depth. Because box gutters are hidden within the roof structure, they are more expensive to install than other types of gutters.

K-Style Gutters

The most common type of aluminum gutter, K-style gutters get their name from the “K” shape that appears when they’re viewed from the end. They are available in a large variety of sizes and have an aesthetic appeal. To handle rainwater flow, they slope towards the downspout, and they are easier to clean than other gutter types because of their open design. K-style gutters are a good choice for standard homes or buildings with moderate rainwater runoff.

Half-Round Gutters

More often used in historic or older-style homes, half-round gutters have rounded bottoms and open tops. They are often chosen for their rustic and decorative look, and they are easier to install than box gutters since they are mounted along a roof’s edge. Because of their shape, they are less suited for heavy rainfall than box gutters and may require more frequent cleaning to prevent clogging.
Your choice of aluminum gutter will depend on the size of your building, the type of roof, your budget, and the look you are going for.
